Helpful Home Moving Tips
1) Unless you’re hiring the company to pack your belongings for you, you should have everything you want the movers to take packed already. To increase the safety of your items, pack and tape boxes the proper ways. For instance, when taping a box, make sure the flaps are folded in 2 at a time and the tape is completely covering the opening.
2) Have your boxes stacked up or piled together in the same area. Boxes will be moved by hand trucks which can take around 3-4 medium-large sized boxes at once. Having the boxes in the same general area makes the turnaround time for the hand trucks a lot shorter, making your trip less costly. If this is too difficult for you, it isn’t a huge deal for the company to stack the boxes themselves.
3) Make sure there is an easy access point for your movers to back their Seattle moving truck into. If the movers have to walk a long way between your home and their truck they may be required to charge you extra for the effort.
4) Clear any extra items that aren’t being taken by the movers out of the way. The movers will be using several different objects with wheels attached and a clear pathway is an absolute must when using them. Making sure the halls and bedrooms are easy to navigate beforehand is an easy way to cut down the costs of the move. The time spent by the movers clearing out each walk way is being paid for by you.
5) Keep children and pets out of the way. Make sure the movers have room to perform their job and keep everyone safe. Pets and children are cute, but a home with heavy furniture moving around is definitely not a safe environment for them to be in.
6) Label items properly. Simply taking a marker and writing which room the boxes will go in at the new house is a huge time saver. Your movers can load up the boxes in the right way in the first house and then unload them all at once in a certain room at the next house. Buying colored stickers to place on furniture and boxes can also help save time during the move. Simply place different colors on different doors in the new home and the movers will place the furniture and boxes in the right areas immediately. This saves time as you don’t have to instruct them where to place things.
